While unlike Modern Warfare 2 Battlefield Bad Company 2 will be having dedicated servers on PC, gamers and clans won’t actually be able to build their own but will have to rent servers directly from DICE authorised host.

bc2_squad_play_1While unlike Modern Warfare 2 Battlefield Bad Company 2 will be having dedicated servers on PC, gamers and clans won’t actually be able to build their own but will have to rent servers directly from DICE authorised host.

The code needed to build and set up dedicated servers is being withheld and won’t be released with the game. This is a first for the Battlefield series as both Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 both launched with those files available and fully supported the building and hosting of dedicated servers. Battlefield Bad Company 2 Producer Gordon Van Dyke told Eurogamer in an interview that this was being done to “protect the game’s integrity on PC”.

That means the only way to host a dedicated server for BFBC2 will be to rent one from an authorised host. Van Dyke was quick to point out that no profit was being made by DICE in the rent of servers, and they would see where the game went and how to best support it after launch. There are, Van Dyke promised, rentable authorised hosts available in all major regions of the world.

The PC beta for Battlefield Bad Company 2 will take place shortly, starting on the  Jan 28th and going through to Feb 25th.. It’ll feature 32 player battles on the snowy map of Port Valdez with a mix of Vehicle and Infantry combat in the Rush game mode. For details of how to take part in the beta jump over to the BFBC2 site.

The full game itself launches on the 5th of March.

I would be happy if this game would just open up and let GSPs like myself host it. http://www.hostedgameservers.com.

Its like everyone is running away from the dedicated game server scene for some reason. WTF?!

At least they are making the effort.

The only effort they are making is how to lock out the gamer from playing freely.Pay to play is on the agenda of these game publishers like Activision and EA..pay for DLC and micro payments.

      Disgusting

If they want to win many CoD/MW2 players then they should make the dedicated servers public. Why should our clan have to pay extra to set up a couple of server when we have our own dedicated server to run game servers? Please reconsider this DICE.

It cost to much to rent a server and most of us dont have the money to pay every week or month. P

Too bad, the future online games will be like this and you have to pay to play with your friends !!, So for ppl live far from main servers from DICE they will get lag and high ping.
