US company Redbana updated the Mythos teaser site yesterday, announcing the upcoming launch of the ARPG MMO Mythos... for the North American market. Slightly irked that parent company T3 appeared to be neglecting a clear market for the game in Europe, we got in touch with Redbana, who told us that "Mythos will definitely be headed there eventually." Good news then, for those that were enjoying the MMO when it was in beta.
“Arguably the most innovative, most in-depth and, for its time, the most advanced role-playing game series there had ever been. Paul Rigby talks to the Ultima series creator Richard Garriott in our special three part tribute… ”
The computer role-playing game was – and still is – the most difficult game genre for any games designer to tackle. This is not a genre that demands that you wobble a marble over a few stepped levels, shoot a selection of dragon heads ...
Speaking to Creative Assembly studio director Mike Simpson about its upcoming title, Napoleon: Total War, we broached the subject of future games in the series including modern and futuristic combat. “We think about this a lot,” he told us, “There’s a big difference, going from Nineteenth Century to Twentieth Century… We could do a World War I game quite well but I’m not sure it will be fun to play.”

When Infinity Ward announced they would be dropping dedicated servers in favour of the peer-to-peer IW.net on PC, they said one of the reasons was to make it easier for them to crack down on cheats. IW.net initially didn’t stop hacks and cheats from doing what they do however, and there were quickly videos posted on Youtube showing their nefarious deeds using aim bots and endless ammo cheats just to name a few.
All that is coming to an end, at ...
Tis the season, as they say, when by long-standing social custom in Western countries' real life tends to assume the worst characteristics of MMOs. Both rigidly enforce participating in communal activities and screaming kids; both entail careful advance planning and the occasional wipe; both expect you to travel outrageous distances to socialise with people whom you normally wouldn’t, all to trade trinkets and clothing in an effort to ‘level up’.

Carmageddon was a long time coming, and didn’t intend to be the “sickly, depraved piece of soul poison” (as Stainless Software founders Neil Barnden and Patrick Buckland called it in the manual introduction) it ultimately evolved into. It began life as a destruction derby game; however, when its marketing potential was realised by publisher SCi, the company had grand ideas of re-engineering it into a Mad Max licence. When this franchise fell apart, a new and equally violent premise presented itself in the shape of an intended fi lm sequel to the 1975 post-apocalyptic movie, Death Race 2000, was announced.
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be a genuine Elvish-speaking Tolkien fan-loony to enjoy LOTRO. It’s an enjoyable and immersive experience for anyone who likes fantasy MMOs, although playing it isn’t going to make you wake up tomorrow with the mystical ability to understand what the hell was going on in The Silmarillion.
